Reading: 

Each night, when reading to or hearing your child read, always give them your close attention and display an interest in the story. Make sure that the TV is turned off, with no other distractions, and that you and your child are comfortable. 

Encourage your child to read/tell you about their favourite part of the story and retell the story in their own words. 

It is important to encourage good reading habits early in your child’s life. This assists them in developing a love of books and stories and strategies for successful reading. 

Writing: 

Young children usually progress through various stages of development when learning to write: 

• Provide a variety of pencils/pens and paper 
• Encourage your child to write at home (beginning with scribble) 
• Praise all attempts 
• Don’t let your child feel a failure 
• Ask your child to tell you what he/she has written 
• Be interested. 

SCHOOL ENTRANCE/TRAVEL: 

Children must enter and leave school grounds via Campbell Street and/or Lyle Street entrances. 

Children using the country/town bus services will catch the buses in Campbell Street. 

A town bus service runs for a cost of $1 per ride (subject to changes). You can contact the office for more details. 

Cars are not to be parked within the “No Standing Signs” or along the bus route side at the school crossings. 

Children walking to and from school are to use the school crossings situated on Lyle Street and Campbell Street. These crossings are fully supervised by teachers between 8:30 and 8:50am. 

For safety reasons parents using the car park are asked to accompany their child into the school grounds using the footpaths. For safety reasons and car parking compliance, visitors must reverse into the carpark at the front of the school.
